Yes, my last name really is Necessary. I am married to a man with a lovely last name, but I chose to keep mine just the way it was.
I am a design and art enthusiast of all kinds... photography, graphic, motion, fiber, you name it, and it appeals to me. I am always striving to learn more, be exposed to new things, and refine my own craft continuously.
After completing my undergraduate studies at Appalachian State in 2003, I continued my education to earn a Masters of Architecture from NC State University's College of Design in 2007. My architectural interests center around the experiential qualities of spaces as they pertain to light and materials, as well as an interest in understanding how individual pieces of architecture can affect and shape cities, communities, and neighborhoods. I hope to build a portfolio of work that will showcase how thoughtful architecture can truly benefit and impact individuals, families, and communities for the better.
My architecture career began with a summer internship in Edinburgh Scotland, and while in graduate school I was fortunate to work for two award winning architecture firms in Raleigh. For the three years following graduate school, I worked for Cannon Architects gaining experience on a variety of local projects, while also completing freelance work on my own. I am currently working as a Project Designer for Vines Architecture working on several exciting new projects. In the fall of 2011 I began teaching at NC State's College of Design as an undergaduate architecture studio instructor. I am confident that this new position will infuse my professional work with the type of inspiration that is unique to an academic setting.
My architectural career intersects with a strong interest in photography, giving me a great opportunity to explore the world through two outlets. Photography has been a hobby and passion of mine for over a decade. During my undergraduate education I took photography classes that gave me a real appreciation for the art of traditional film photography. For me, photography is an entirely different creative outlet than architecture. The gratification is much more immediate, yet the artifact is just as permanent. Together, these two creative fields define the way I view the world, and how I hope to shape it in the future.
I call Raleigh, NC home, where my husband and I plan our next great adventure to far away places and tear our house apart and put it back together. We spend most of our free time playing with our amazing dog, Boone, and contemplating how we lucked up by getting the best dog ever known to man.
This site is meant as a place where my photographic and architectural endeavors can come together and find a home. Please check back often as I continue to add projects and photographs...
